How to cancel a SoundCloud subscription
SoundCloud sells two entirely different kinds of subscription, and the guides that treat them as one thing are why this gets confusing. Listener plans (Go and Go+) remove ads and allow offline listening. Creator plans (Artist and Artist Pro, previously Next Plus and Next Pro) raise your upload limit and add stats and distribution.
They cancel in the same settings area but have very different consequences. Cancelling a listener plan costs you some convenience. Cancelling a creator plan can hide music you have already uploaded — which is the question most people are actually here to ask.
First, work out who bills you
Check your statement or the original receipt, because this decides where the cancel button is:
- The charge names SoundCloud directly — you subscribed on the website.
- The charge reads
APPLE.COM/BILL— Apple bills you. You subscribed inside the iOS app. - The charge reads
GOOGLE *SoundCloud— Google Play bills you.
SoundCloud states plainly that it cannot cancel or refund a subscription bought on an iOS device — that has to go through Apple. Contacting SoundCloud support about an Apple-billed plan will only get you redirected.
Cancelling on the SoundCloud website
Use a desktop browser if you can. The mobile web layout tends to bury account settings.
- Sign in at soundcloud.com.
- Open your Settings, then the Subscriptions page.
- Click the Edit icon next to your current subscription.
- Follow the prompts to cancel, and confirm.
- Check that the page now shows an expires date rather than a renewal date.
That expires date is the confirmation. If the entry still shows a renewal date, the cancellation did not complete.
Cancelling if Apple bills you
- Open Settings and tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap the SoundCloud entry, then Cancel Subscription.
If SoundCloud is not listed, you are probably signed in with a different Apple Account than the one that bought it — the Apple subscriptions guide covers how to check which one.
What happens to your uploads on a creator plan
This is the part worth knowing before you cancel an Artist or Artist Pro plan, and the answer is better than most people fear.
Nothing is deleted. When you drop to the free tier, your oldest uploads above the free limit are hidden from listeners rather than removed. Your tracks, play counts, comments and stats are all retained.
If you upgrade again later, the hidden tracks are restored exactly as they were, along with the stats and comments attached to them. So cancelling a creator plan is reversible in a way that cancelling most services is not.
What does stop is distribution. If you were using SoundCloud to distribute to Spotify, Apple Music and the rest, those releases are affected by the plan ending — check what is live before you cancel, and move distribution elsewhere first if anything of yours is actively earning.
The hiding is oldest-first. If there is specific music you want to stay visible on the free tier, the order of your uploads is what determines it.
What happens on a listener plan
Go and Go+ keep working until the end of the period you have already paid for — you can see the exact expires date on the Subscriptions page.
After that, ads return, offline downloads stop playing, and the full Go+ catalogue is no longer available. Your likes, playlists, reposts and follows are all unaffected, because they belong to the account rather than the plan.
Anything you downloaded for offline listening becomes unplayable rather than deleted. It reappears if you subscribe again.
Refunds and what to check afterwards
Nothing is refunded for the unused portion as standard — cancelling stops the next charge rather than clawing back the current one.
For a charge that has already gone through, use reportaproblem.apple.com for Apple purchases or SoundCloud support for web purchases. Both are noticeably more receptive within a few days of the charge than weeks later.
Worth a final check: if you have ever held both a listener plan and a creator plan, they are separate subscriptions and cancelling one leaves the other running. The Subscriptions page lists both.
Common questions
Will I lose my uploads if I cancel SoundCloud Next Pro?
No. Nothing is deleted. Your oldest uploads above the free tier's limit are hidden from listeners, and the tracks, stats and comments are all kept. If you upgrade again they are restored exactly as they were.
Why can't SoundCloud cancel my subscription?
Because Apple is billing you. SoundCloud cannot cancel or refund a subscription bought inside the iOS app — it has to be done in Settings → your name → Subscriptions on your iPhone. Check your statement for APPLE.COM/BILL.
What is the difference between SoundCloud Go+ and an Artist plan?
Go and Go+ are listener plans — ad-free listening, offline playback and the full catalogue. Artist and Artist Pro are creator plans — higher upload limits, stats and distribution. They are separate subscriptions and cancelling one does not touch the other.
Do I keep SoundCloud Go+ until the end of the month if I cancel?
Yes. Your features stay active until the expires date shown on the Subscriptions page, and nothing is refunded for the unused time. There is no benefit to leaving the cancellation until the last day.
